These units combine a boiling water storage unit unobstrusively located beneath the counter top and a compact dispensing font and are ideal for situations where wall or countertop space is limited. Hot water drawn off at the font is automatically replaced by incoming water which is pre-heated to near boiling point to prevent the temperature of the stored water from being lowered. The immediate availability of hot water is essentially determined by the storage capacity of the water heater which should be large enough to meet any peaks in demand. Storage capacity may be estimated by multiplying the number of people who may wish to use the unit at one time by the size of the cups (typically 167mL) or mugs (250mL) used. So if ten people with 250mL mugs are to use the unit at the same time the water heater storage capacity must not be less than 10 x 250mL or 2.5L.
